Description

The present disclosure relates to, inter alia, antimicrobial combination compositions comprising: (a) one or more glycerol derivatives; and (b) one or more bicyclic compounds. The antimicrobial combination composition described above can be used in cosmetic or pharmaceutical formulations.

Preservation of household preparations, such as cosmetic preparations, extends their shelf life and therefore provides greater value for money to the consumer. Embodiment 107 is the cosmetic composition according to embodiment 106, wherein the composition has an anti-oxidation factor of 2.0 to 10.0, preferably 3.0 to 9.0, even more preferably 4.0 to 8. A cosmetic composition having a pH value of .0 is provided.

Embodiment 108 relates to a method of care for keratinous materials, comprising:
(1) Applying the cosmetic composition according to any one of embodiments 34 to 107 or the antimicrobial combination composition according to any one of embodiments 1 to 30 onto a keratin material. and (2) allowing said composition to remain on said keratin material for at least one hour.

Embodiment 109 is a method according to embodiment 108, comprising: applying a cosmetic composition according to any one of embodiments 34 to 107 onto a keratin material; and applying at least remaining on said keratinous material for one hour.

Embodiment 120 is the method of embodiment 108 or 109, wherein the method does not include a rinsing step (e.g., rinsing the treated skin for at least 1 hour, at least 2 hours, at least 4 hours, or at least 6 hours). (by refraining).

Embodiment 121 provides the use of an antimicrobial combination composition according to any one of embodiments 1 to 30 in the preservation of cosmetic compositions.

1. A cosmetic composition for leave-on skin care use, having a pH in the range of 4 to 6, comprising:
(a) 3-[(2-ethylhexyl)oxy]-1,2-propanediol, 3-[(n-octyl)oxy]-1,2-propanediol and 3-[(2-octyl)oxy]- one or more glycerol derivatives selected from the group consisting of 1,2-propanediol; and
(b) 5,7-dihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)chroman-4-one (naringenin), 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-3,5,7-trihydroxychromen-4-one (quercetin), 5,7-dihydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)chroman-4-one (hesperetin) and 5,7-dihydroxy-2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-chroman- One or more bicyclic compounds selected from the group consisting of 4-one (eriodictyol).
Less than 2.5% by weight of one or more bicyclic compounds as described above, or less than 3% by weight, or less than 1% by weight, or less than 0.5% by weight of one or more bicyclic compounds as described above. The cosmetic composition according to 1 above, which contains all of the above based on the total weight of the one or more glycerol derivatives.
3. The cosmetic composition according to 1 or 2 above, which has a pH within the range of 5.3 to 5.7, or about pH 5.5.
4. 4. The cosmetic composition according to any one of 1 to 3 above, wherein the one or more glycerol derivatives include 3-[(2-ethylhexyl)oxy]-1,2-propanediol.

12. 12. The method of claim 11, which does not include a rinsing step (e.g., by refraining from rinsing the treated skin for at least 1 hour, at least 2 hours, at least 4 hours, or at least 6 hours).

Claims (9)

Use as an antimicrobial agent in a cosmetic composition with a pH in the range 4-6 for leave-on skin care use of a combination comprising:
(a) one or more selected from the group consisting of 3-[(2-ethylhexyl)oxy]-1,2-propanediol and 3-[(n-octyl)oxy]-1,2-propanediol; Glycerol derivatives; and (b) 5,7-dihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)chroman-4-one (naringenin) and 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-3,5,7-trihydroxychromene One or more bicyclic compounds selected from the group consisting of -4-one (quercetin). 2. The use according to claim 1, wherein the cosmetic composition excludes a cosmetic composition containing sasanquat extract. 3. The cosmetic composition according to claim 1 or 2 , wherein the cosmetic composition comprises less than 5% by weight of said one or more bicyclic compounds , based on the total weight of said one or more glycerol derivatives. Use . Use according to any one of claims 1 to 3 , wherein the cosmetic composition has a pH in the range 5.3 to 5.7. Use according to any one of claims 1 to 4 , wherein the one or more glycerol derivatives comprises 3-[(2-ethylhexyl)oxy]-1,2-propanediol. Use according to any one of claims 1 to 4 , wherein the one or more glycerol derivatives comprises 3-[(n-octyl)oxy]-1,2-propanediol. Use according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the one or more bicyclic compounds comprises 5,7-dihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)chroman-4-one. Any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the one or more bicyclic compounds comprises 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-3,5,7-trihydroxychromen-4-one. Uses as described in. The one or more glycerol derivatives include 3-[(n-octyl)oxy]-1,2-propanediol, and the one or more bicyclic compounds include 5,7-dihydroxy-2- Use according to any one of claims 1 to 4, comprising (4-hydroxyphenyl)chroman-4-one (naringenin).
