Abstract
Description
(図1に示す構造を有する電気泳動式表示装置の作製)
ポリエチレン樹脂で表面を被覆した平均粒径3μmの酸化チタン粉末(白色粒子)と、アルキルトリメチルアンモニウムクロライドで表面処理した平均粒径4μmのカーボンブラック粉末(黒色粒子)をテトラクロロエチレンに分散し、分散液を得た。このとき、白色粒子を負に帯電させ、黒色粒子を正に帯電させた。
カラーフィルタとして、図3に示す、赤色サブ画素R、3つの透明サブ画素Tからなるモノカラーの表示装置用のものを用いたことを除いて、実施例と同様に電気泳動式表示装置を作製した。この電気泳動式表示装置について、実施例と同様に白表示、及び赤表示した際の白表示特性(反射率、色相)と赤色表示特性(彩度)の測定を行った。
カラーフィルタとして、図4に示す、赤色サブ画素R、緑色サブ画素G、青色サブ画素B、透明サブ画素Tからなるフルカラーの表示装置用のものを用いたことを除いて、実施例と同様に電気泳動式表示装置を作製した。このとき、赤色サブ画素R、緑色サブ画素G、青色サブ画素Bともに、サブ画素内の着色部の面積は70%であった。この電気泳動式表示装置について、実施例と同様に白表示、及び赤表示した際の白表示特性(反射率、色相)と赤色表示特性(彩度)の測定を行った。

Claims (8)
- 反射型ディスプレイであって、
基板と、
前記基板上に設けられる複数の画素電極と、
前記複数の画素電極上に設けられる反射型表示層と、
前記反射型表示層上に設けられる電極と、
前記電極上に設けられるインク定着層と、
前記インク定着層上に設けられ、複数の画素を有するカラーフィルタ層とを備え、
前記複数の画素のそれぞれは、第1の色を示す着色部を有する第1のサブ画素と、前記第1の色と補色関係である第2の色を示す着色部を有する第2のサブ画素と、透明な第3のサブ画素とを含み、
前記第1のサブ画素内の着色部の面積を1.0としたときの、前記第2のサブ画素内の着色部の面積が0.2以上1.0以下であり、前記第3のサブ画素の面積の合計が0.5以上8.0以下であることを特徴とする、反射型ディスプレイ。 - 前記第1のサブ画素は、前記第1のサブ画素内の着色部が占める面積の比が50%以上90%以下であることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の反射型ディスプレイ。
- 前記第1のサブ画素内の着色部が赤色着色部であり、前記第2のサブ画素内の着色部がシアン色着色部であることを特徴とする、請求項1または請求項2に記載の反射型ディスプレイ。
- 前記反射型表示層が、電気泳動表示層であることを特徴とする、請求項1〜3のいずれかに記載の反射型ディスプレイ。
- 前記電気泳動表示層が、少なくとも白色粒子と黒色粒子を含むマイクロカプセルを樹脂中に分散したマイクロカプセル層であることを特徴とする、請求項4に記載の反射型ディスプレイ。
- 請求項1〜5のいずれか1項に記載の反射型ディスプレイの駆動方法であって、
前記第1のサブ画素に対応する部分の反射型表示層を黒表示とし、前記第2のサブ画素および前記第3のサブ画素に対応する部分の反射型表示層を白表示とすることで、画素全体で白色表示を行うことを特徴とする、反射型ディスプレイの表示方法。 - 請求項1〜5のいずれか1項に記載の反射型ディスプレイの駆動方法であって、
前記第2のサブ画素に対応する部分の反射型表示層を黒表示とし、前記第1のサブ画素および前記第3のサブ画素に対応する部分の反射型表示層を白表示とすることで、画素全体で前記第1の色表示を行うことを特徴とする、反射型ディスプレイの駆動方法。 - 請求項1〜4のいずれか1項に記載の反射型ディスプレイの駆動方法であって、
前記第1のサブ画素、前記第2のサブ画素および前記第3のサブ画素に対応する部分の反射型表示層を黒色表示とすることで、画素全体で黒色表示を行うことを特徴とする、反射型ディスプレイの駆動方法。
