Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect a foreign metallic matter with a small diameter existing inside, by closing a breaker within 100msec to apply an AC voltage to a gas insulated switch after a voltage is applied to a fixed level on one side thereof with the breaker opened. CONSTITUTION:A gas insulated switch (GSI) 1 normally has breaking devices 3 and 4 arranged on both sides of a breaker 2. The breaker 2 is opened while the breaking devices 3 and 4 are closed. Then, an AC withstand voltage tester 8 is connected to a bushing 7 on the side of the breaking device 3 to be charged with an AC testing transformer to an AC test voltage value and then, by the operation of closing the breaker 12, a specified value of AC voltage is applied as rush current to the GSI1 within 100msec. Then, a test value of AC voltage is applied as rush current repeatedly within 100msec while raising the test voltage value. This facilitates detection of a metallic foreign matter with a small diameter which may exist in the GIS1 depending on the phenomenon of dielectric breakdown thereby achieving a higher insulation reliability thereof 1.
