Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a dielectric strength tester which is compact and readily handled, by arranging such that the battery voltage is boosted by means of a D/D converter to obtain a high voltage, and a breakdown voltage is automatically measured by means of a discharge detecting circuit. CONSTITUTION:Valves 12a and 12b are opened to pass the insulation gass from a gas-insulated apparatus 16 through a container 13, and when the content of the container have been completely replaced by the insulation gas, the valves 12a and 12b are closed. Then, a micrometer 15 is regulated so that the gap G between electrodes is optimumly set. Subsequently, a switch 3 is made, and the input voltage of a D/D converter 4 is gradually boosted by a regulator 2 in order to apply a high DC voltage to a gap apparatus 11. When the high DC voltage has reached a breakdown voltage, discharge is started. When a discharge current flows, the value measured by a voltmeter 8 is held by means of the detection signal from a detecting circuit 19 and at the same time, the input to the D/D converter 4 is shut off through a relay 5, so that the damage to the electrodes is prevented. By such a constitution, it is possible to obtain a dielectric strength tester which is compact and readily handled.
