Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten a waiting time and to take many copies in a short time while maintaining image quality by performing switching to use of another developing device which contains toner of the same color when it is decided that toner concentration is smaller than a reference value. CONSTITUTION:Plural developing devices are provided and a developing device 6 is a development type which uses powder consisting of toner and carriers and attachable/detachable to from a copying machine main body. A developing sleeve 61 is arranged rotatably opposite to a photosensitive drum 2 and applied with a developing bias. A toner concentration detection sensor AS2 which detects toner concentration as variation in magnetic permeability is provided on the bottom part of a conveyance path 64 and its sensor surface is fitted so as to be brought into contact with the developer in the conveyance path 64, so that its output signal is outputted to a CPU. The CPU performs the switching to the usage of another developing device when the toner concentration is smaller than the reference value. Consequently, image forming operation is continued.
