Abstract

PURPOSE:To continuously maintain an image of proper image quality by providing plural developing devices with the priority level of selection and performing switching to the usage of a developing device with succeeding priority when a developing device with high priority is in an improper state. CONSTITUTION:A developing device 6 is a development type which uses powder consisting of toner and carriers and attachable/detachable to/from a copying machine main body. A toner concentration detection sensor AS2 which detects toner concentration as variation in magnetic permeability is provided on the bottom part of a conveyance path 64 and outputs the toner concentration to a CPU. The CPU decides an improper development state when the toner concentration is smaller than a reference value and performs the switching to a developing device with succeeding priority. Thus, the priority level is given to the mounted developing devices and developing device is switched according to the priority to obtain images having proper image quality continuously.
