Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain a proper image of the same color by performing switching only when the toner concentration of another developing device is larger than a reference value if it is decided that toner concentration is smaller than the reference value, and replenishing toner when the toner concentration is smaller than the reference value. CONSTITUTION:Plural developing devices are provided and a developing device is a type which uses powder consisting of toner and carriers and attachable/ detachable to from a copying machine main body. The toner concentration is detected by a toner concentration detection sensor as variation in magnetic permeability and outputted to a CPU. The CPU performs switching to the use of another developing device when the toner concentration is smaller than the reference value. When the toner concentration is smaller than the reference value, a bracket 80 is provided on one end part of the developing device 5 and a toner replenishing bottle 81 for replenishing toner is mounted freely detachably on the bracket 80 and replenishes the toner while rotating by a supply motor. Further, a bottle presence/absence detection sensor 82 and a toner empty detection sensor 83 which detects whether or not there is toner are provided additionally in the vicinity of the bottle 81.
