Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the flow, mold packing, fusibility, etc., by coating the surfaces of expandable thermoplastic resin particles containing a hydrocarbon having a boiling point lower than the softening point of the resin with a coating agent containing a methylol derivative of a fatty acid amide. CONSTITUTION:Resin particles (e.g., polystyrene particles) to be expanded are impregnated with a hydrocarbon having a boiling point lower than the softening point of the resin particles (e.g., propane). The surfaces of these particles are coated with a coating agent containing a methylol derivative of a fatty acid amide (e.g., methylolstearamide or methylolpalmitamide) as an essential component to produce expandable thermoplastic resin particles. The obtained particles can be suitably used as a material for producing, e.g., containers for fishes, agricultural products, etc., cushioning materials used in transporting packages of electrical components, electronic components, etc. and heat-insulating materials of building, etc.
