Abstract
PURPOSE:To prepare a large-sized molded article in high efficiency, by using two or more pre-foamed synthetic resin beads having different resin components and/ or foaming ratios to different parts of the article. CONSTITUTION:A mold 3 is divided into parts A to be filled with high-expansion beads and parts B to filled with low-expansion beads. The parts A and B are furnished with a high-expansion beads-introducing opeing 5 and a low-expansion beads-introducing opening 4, respectively. The openings 5, 4 are connected with metering hoppers 1, 2, respecitvely. The high-expansion beads 7 are introduced to the part of the mold 3 corresponding to the skin layer of the molded article, and then low-expansion beads 6 and high-expansion beads 7 are introduced through the openings 4 and 5 to the respective parts of the mold. The beads are integrated by heating in the mold. The process can be carried out using beads of different resins. For example, when pre-foamed polystyrene and pre-foamed polyethylene are used in the process, both resins are physically intermeshed together to form an integrated article.
