Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce voltage stress when a snubber circuit is turned OFF, by discharging residual charges in a snubber capacitor on an upper side arm during ON interval of a switching element on the upper side arm. CONSTITUTION:A single phase inverter comprising self-extinguish switching elements(GTO) 11-12 regenerate snubber energy thereof. In the snubber circuit, a series circuit of a snubber diode 31 and a snubber capacitor 41 is connected in parallel with a switching element 11 in an upper side arm, while anode terminal of a snubber diode 32 is connected to the cathode terminal of the snubber diode 31, and a snubber capacitor 43 is connected between the cathode terminal of the diode 32 and the negative pole side terminal of the switching element 12. Regeneration to a DC power source 5 and the like is made through a converter 8. Here, a diode 100, a snubber capacitor 200 and a discharge resistor 300 are inserted additionally. Consequently, residual charges are discharged and voltage stress is eliminated.
