Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove elements with poor directivity within laser beam and to obtain a laser beam with an optimum light-collecting characteristics suited for laser machining by providing a beam reduction optic system which reduces the laser beam in the direction of width between one end face of laser medium and a reflector which forms an oscillator opposing this end face. CONSTITUTION:A prism beam reduction optic system 18a for reducing the diameter in the direction of width of laser beam is provided between a partial reflector 17 and the other sliding face 14 of a laser medium 11. When a laser beam with a width of W1 radiated from the laser medium 11 is reflected the first right-angle prism 18, it changes into a beam with a width of W2 which is smaller than W1. When a laser beam with a width of W2 is reflected by the second right-angle prism 19, the width becomes even smaller, namely W3. Then, the laser beam with a width of W3 passes through an opening 21 of a regulation plate 22 and then reaches the partial reflector 17. With the laser beam which is reflected here and returns to the second right-angle prism 19, elements with poor directivity are eliminated when the beam passes through the opening 21.
