Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer composition having high heat-resistance and low water-absorption and suitable as an optical material, by compounding a copolymer of an N-substituted maleimide compound and an alkyl acrylate compound with a (chlorinated) polyvinyl chloride. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer composition for optical use having a glass transition temperature of >=100 deg.C and a water-absorption of <=0.7wt.% can be produced by compounding (A) 20-99wt.% of a copolymer composed of (A1) 10-90wt.% of an N-substituted maleimide monomer of formula I [R is H or <=15C, preferably <=10C (cyclo)alkyl] (preferably N-cyclohexyl maleimide, etc.), (A2) 10-90wt.% of an alkyl acrylate compound of formula II [R is H or methyl; R' is <=10C (alicyclic alkyl] (preferably methyl methacrylate) and (A3) 0-40wt.% of other copolymerizable monomer (e.g. styrene) and (B) 1-80wt.% of a (chlorinated) polyvinyl chloride having a glass transition temperature of 65-140 deg.C.
