Abstract

PURPOSE:To form the title non-oxide based composite ceramic sintered body having high density, heat resistance, and toughness and having excellent electrical conductivity by incorporating the carbides of the transition metals such as ZrC, NbC, VC, WC, MoC, TaC, and HfC into SiC, and jointly using boron and carbon as the sintering assistant. CONSTITUTION:The mixed powder contg. 5-95wt.% of >=1 kind selected from ZrC, NbC, VC, WC, MoC, TaC, and HfC, 0.1-5wt.% of boron or a boron compd., expressed in terms of boron and based on SiC, as the sintering assistant, 0.1-5wt.% of carbon or a carbon compd., expressed in terms of remaining carbon and based on SiC, and the balance SiC is prepared. The mixed powder is then compacted, and sintered. Atmospheric sintering, hot-press sintering, HIP sintering, etc., can be applied in the sintering.
