Abstract

PURPOSE:To use reference line data to efficiently substitute image data of the current processing line by adding a reference line buffer memory in which reference line data is stored. CONSTITUTION:A decoding processing part 12 is operated to decode inputted code data in the expansion processing mode and to detect a point a0 in the compression mode. A generation processing part 14 generates image data based on the decoded result of the decoding processing part 12 in the expansion processing mode and generates code data based on the detected point a0 in the compression mode. A buffer memory control part 16 accesses a reference line buffer memory 6 to write or read reference line data and decides discriminates whether the generation processing advances up to the terminal of the line or not. Thus, reference line data is used to efficiently substitute image data of the current processing line.
