CONSTITUTION:A vertical direction contour component extractor 8R forms the contour exaggeration component in the vertical direction from a signal G, and sends it to one terminal side of a variable resistor 13. A vertical direction contour component extractor 8R forms the contour exaggeration component in the vertical direction from a signal R, and sends it to the other terminal side of the variable resistor 13. An adder 12 adds the signal G and the signal R band-limited in the vertical direction, respectively, at low-pass filters 7G and 7R, and sends them to a horizontal direction contour component extractor 14, and after forming the contour exaggeration component in a horizontal direction at the extractor, it is sent to a level controller 15.
