Abstract

PURPOSE:To determine large deformation of subsoil in a time sequence, by a method wherein a shape memory wire is inserted into a pipe, current flows through the wire to memorize the shape at the moment by heating and then, the wire is taken out of the pipe to be returned to the shape memorized. CONSTITUTION:A shape memory wire 3 is inserted into a pipe 2 buried into a hole 1 made by drilling or the like and current flows through the wire to heat it so that the shape is memorized at the moment above a certain temperature. Thereafter, the wire 3 is taken once out of the pipe 2 and heated in a measuring chamber or the like above 40 deg. again to be deformed to the shape previously memorized. The deformation is measured as initial value thereof. This operation is performed at a certain frequency to determine a large deformation of the subsoil in a time sequence.
