Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve chemical stability and the contrast of signals by using a thin alloy film essentially consisting of Ni and Ge and contg. 10-60atom.% Ge as a recording layer. CONSTITUTION:The thin alloy film essentially consisting of Ni and Ge and contg. 10-60atom.% Ge is deposited and formed as the recording layer by a 2-source vapor deposition method on a high-polymer substrate (polyimide) 1. A protective SiO2 film 3 is formed by a vapor deposition method on this thin Ni-Ge alloy film 2. The optical characteristics of this recording layer change when said layer is quickly heated or slowly cooled by laser light. The optical recording medium which is excellent in the chemical stability such as moisture resistance and has the high contrast is thereby obtd.
