Abstract

PURPOSE:To give a high-grade appearance of design and to improve a water resistance by applying a mica-base coating material of a specified composition wet-on-wet to a coating film of metal oxides and aluminum compounds which is formed on a colored precoat film. CONSTITUTION:A coating film made of one or more species among a metal oxide such as titanium oxide, iron oxide and silicon dioxide and aluminum compounds are formed on a colored precoat film. Then, a mica-base coating material and an clear lacquer are applied to it wet-on-wet and cured afterward. The aforementioned mica-base coating material contains 10-25% pigment, 5-95% of which is a coating mica treated with a hydrophobic carboxylic acid of 5-24C and having a grain size of about 4-40mum. By using this method, an optional complex color is obtained continuously, a coating on a universal intermediate coat becomes possible and a design merit is also exhibited.
