Abstract

PURPOSE: To ensure an even and stable light output with a high intensity over a wide area for a long time by providing a special reflector as well as a means to inject gas to cool a microwave excitation type electrodeless light source which is supported to rotate freely in a microwave cavity. CONSTITUTION: A stem 18a which fixes a spherical lamp 18b is supported by an upper part of a solid wall part 8a of a microwave cavity 8 at two points, and is covered with an end wall 11 on which a mechanism rotated by a motor 25 is mounted. A slot 10a is provided at a side wall 10 to introduce microwave from a magnetron 15 through a wave guide path 14. A plurality of the slots 10a are provided for a high intensity light output. A plurality of nozzle 31 are provided in various heights at a cooling gas block 12 positioned at the lower part, so as to equally blow cooling gas against the lamp 18b for cooling it.
