PURPOSE:To omit counting operation which is not necessary for pulse width measurement and to save electric power by measuring the time difference between a minimum time on which pulse width to be measured is based and the pulse width to be measured. CONSTITUTION:A counter controller 25 switches the frequency of a frequency division output to a higher frequency in order right after the start of operation to perform counting operation. Then when the output of a temperature sensor rises to high level, the counting operation is stopped and the current outputs Q0-Q7 of a binary counter 24 become a compensation code, which is supplied to a VCX02 to perform temperature compensation. Thus, the difference between low-level pulse width at current temperature and pulse width at -30 deg.C is counted with reference pulses of high frequency based on the minimum width of gate pulse in the compensated temperature range, e.g. low-level pulse width at -30 deg.C, and the counted value is used as a temperature compensation code at each temperature.
