Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the adhesiveness between a magnetic layer and protective layer and to improve the durability of a magnetic recording medium by projecting ions of the same material as the material of the protective layer onto the surface of the magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The ion-implanted layer of the same material as the material of the protective layer is provided near the surface of the ferromagnetic layer of the magnetic recording medium formed by providing the ferromagnetic layer on a nonmagnetic substrate and further, providing the protective layer thereon. Namely, the magnetic Co-Cr layer 10 is deposited by evaporation on the substrate 2 and the B ion-implanted layer 12 is formed near the surface in the upper part of this magnetic layer 10. The protective film 14 consisting of B is laminated on this ion-implanted layer 12. The affinity of the protective layer 14 and the ion-implanted layer 12 is thereby improved and the adhesiveness between the magnetic layer 10 and the protective layer 14 is eventually enhanced. The magnetic recording medium having the excellent durability is thus obtd.
