PURPOSE:To obtain a novel composition changing from a colorless into a darkly colored state with light rays containing ultraviolet rays, showing reversible and excellent durability of the change, consisting of a specific fulgide compound and an ultraviolet light absorber. CONSTITUTION:The aimed composition consisting of (A) a fulgide compound shown by formula I {group shown by formula II is (substituted)norbornylidene; R1 is H, (substituted)hydrocarbon or heterocyclic ring; X is O or group shown by formula III [R2 is H or (substituted)hydrocarbon]; group shown by formula IV is (substituted)aromatic hydrocarbon or (substituted)unsaturated heterocyclic ring} and (B) an ultraviolet light absorber preferably comprising a quenching agent of oxygen in a singlet state and a hindered amine light stabilizer. The aimed composition is useful for various recording materials, photochromic lens materials, optical filter materials, display materials, actinometers and ornament.
