Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to more accurately control variation in the number of idle revolutions by correcting a basic ignition timing through an actual intake air quantity at a transient time when the intake air quantity attains its desired value according to variation in an external engine load. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 19 controls both an intake air quantity and an ignition timing to control variation in the number of idle revolutions on variation in an external load in an idle state of an engine. Namely, the ignition timing is advanced or delayed as much as a fixed quantity, which causes no variation in the number of idle revolutions, than a basic ignition timing simultaneously with the occurrence of the variation in the external load, and decided through variation in the intake air quantity to gradually return to the basic ignition timing afterward. In this case, an actual intake air quantity is drawn through computation made using measured values given by an air flowmeter 12 in consideration of an error in measurement caused by the detection lag of the air flowmeter 12 on an upstream side of a throttle valve 11 at a transient time when the intake air quantity attains its desired value. Ignition timing control can be therefore improved in its responsiveness and correctness.
