Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable stable and high-precision molding without changing the once obtained optimum molding condition by using a die material wherein the thermal expansion coefficient of a convex die for the concave face of a lens is equal to the thermal expansion coefficient of a glass stock or is larger than it. CONSTITUTION:After firstly feeding a glass stock 4 into a die, the die is set between upper and lower press heads 5, 6 held in the nonoxidative atmosphere and the glass stock is heated at the temp. close to the softening temp. of glass together with the die. Then after pressurizing and molding it, heating is stopped and it is pressurized and cooled at the temp. close to dislocation point of glass. After releasing pressurization at the temp. not higher than dislocation point of glass, it is cooled at ordinary temp. and a molded lens 7 is taken out from the inside of the die. In case of measuring shape precision of the lens molded by this molding method, the molded lens having extremely high precision not more than 0.2mu is obtained. Shrinkage at a time of cooling the molded lens is not hindered by the die even for every lens shapes in principle by using this method and natural thermal shrinkage is performed and therefore stable and high-precision molding is enabled.
