Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily identify whether a thermal transfer recording is possible or a thermal sensitive recording is possible without a complicate key operation by providing means for detecting the presence or absence of the charge of an ink sheet and the presence of absence of a thermal transfer or sensitive material to be recorded to judge whether thermal transfer recording or thermal sensitive recording can be performed. CONSTITUTION:A reflection type sensor (second sensor) 11 is disposed at an extended ink sheet 8 to detect the presence or absence of the sheet 8. A reflection type sensor 10 (first sensor) is disposed beforehand from a platen roller 3 of a recording sheet led to a thermal head 4 to monitor the presence or absence of the sheet through a hole opened at a guide member 12. A central processing unit CPU 20 judges the transferring state by the combination of signals input through an I/O port 21 from the sensors 10, 11, display means, such as LCD 22 thereby displaying an alarm on the basis of the judgement to automatically control energy to be supplied to the head 4.
