Abstract
PURPOSE:To retard the breakage of a negative electrode by zinc even if charge- discharge is repeated to increase the reliability of a battery by forming the negative electrode with an aluminium-lithium alloy bonded with zinc. CONSTITUTION:In a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a nonaqueous electrolyte containing alkali metal ions, a positive electrode 4 capa ble of recharge, and a negative electrode 1 which absorbs an alkali metal during charge and desorbs alkali metal ions into the nonaqueous electrolyte during discharge, the negative electrode 1 is prepared in such a way that aluminium, zinc chloride, and ammonium chloride are heat-treated to prepare a base mate rial comprising aluminium and zinc for binding aluminium, and aluminium in the base material is alloyed with lithium to strongly bond aluminium. Since the alloy of aluminium with lithium is bonded with zinc which is difficult to electrochemically react with lithium and zinc acts as the binder even in charge- discharge, the breakage of the negative electrode is retarded even if charge- discharge is repeated.
