Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance sealing performance and durability by providing a grommet around the peripheral part of a combustion chamber hole in an intermediate plate which is interposed between two sheets of base plates, and by setting the thickness of the grommet so as to be greater than the gap between deck surfaces in which a metallic gasket is interposed. CONSTITUTION:A metallic gasket 2 is made up of two sheets of base plates 4-1, 4-2 of elastic metal, and an intermediate plate 6 being interposed between these base plates 4-1 and 4-2. And in the intermediate plate 6, a combustion chamber hole 8 and bolt holes 12 are formed, and further in each of both base plates 4-1 and 4-2, a corrugated bead 14 surrounding a combustion chamber hole 8 is formed. in the above constitution, a grommet 10 is provided around the peripheral part 6a of the combustion chamber hole 8 in the intermediate plate 6. And the thickness t2 of the grommet 10 is set to be greater than the gap between respective deck surfaces of a cylinder head and a cylinder block in which the metallic gasket 2 is interposed.
