Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect a bead and improve the durability by forming a pinching space section at the desired portion of an intermediate plate inserted between two substrates and providing a compensating member in this pinching space section. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate plate 6 is out nearly in parallel with the first and second substrates 4-1, 4-2 to form a pinching space section 14 on the combustion chamber hole 8 side, i.e., the inner edge 4a portion of the combustion chamber hole 8. A compensating member 16 with the desired width W and the preset thickness (t) and made of heat-resistant plastic seal, for example, is provided in this space section 14. When a laminated metal gasket 2 is inserted on the deck face between a cylinder head and a cylinder block, the fatigue breakdown of a bead 2 due to the expansion and shrinkage of the gap on the deck face around a combustion chamber is prevented by the compensating member 16, the bead 12 is protected, the sealing property is improved, the durability is improved, and the usage life can be extended.
