Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a developer layer uniform and thinner and reproduce a high-density, wide-area image, and to prevent a no-image part from fogging by using a developer to which an external additive containing polymer particles is added. CONSTITUTION:When the developer 1 is supplied onto a developer carrier 5, controlled by a control member 3 to a specific electrostatic charging quantity and specific thickness, and conveyed to an electrostatic latent image on an electrostatic latent image carrier 7 facing the developer carrier 5 to visualize the electrostatic latent image, the developer 1 to which the external additive containing polymer particles is added is used. Here, the polymer particles in use are a monomer or copolymer of methyl methacrylate and preferably transparent, electrostatic charge level is 1-20muc/g, the size of the polymer particles is properly 1/5-1/100 as large as the size of the developer entering the particles from the surfaces of the developer particles. Further, it is preferable that the polymer particles have the same polarity with the developer. Consequently, the reproducibility of the high-density, wide-area image is sufficient and the image becomes faithful to the original having no fogging at its no-image part.
