Abstract
PURPOSE:To easily produce alpha-gypsum hemihydrate in high efficiency, by producing a slurry of alpha-gypsum hemihydrate in a pressurized hydrothermal treatment tank, cooling the slurry to a prescribed temperature by the heat-exchange with a gypsum dihydrate slurry used as a raw material and separating into solid and liquid under atmospheric pressure. CONSTITUTION:A slurry 5 of gypsum dihydrate is produced by supplying gypsum dihydrate 1, sodium citrate 2 and water 3 to a gypsum dihydrate slurry preparation tank 4. The gypsum dihydrate slurry 5 is introduced through a heat- exchanger 6 into a pressurized hydrothermal treatment tank 8 and is subjected to pressurized hydrothermal treatment to convert the gypsum dihydrate into alpha-gypsum hemihydrate. The produced slurry 9 of alpha-gypsum hemihydrate is transferred to the heat-exchanger 6, cooled by the heat-exchange with the gypsum dihydrate slurry 5 and further cooled to 90-100 deg.C with a cooler 11. The cooled slurry is introduced into a solid-liquid separation tank 13 and separated into solid and liquid under atmospheric pressure. The solid alpha-gypsum hemihydrate 14 is dried with a drier 15 and crushed with a crusher 17 to obtain the alpha-gypsum hemihydrate 18 as the product.
