Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled porous membrane having excellent gamma-ray resistance, chemical resistance, water-permeability, mechanical strength, etc., and suitable as a filter for chemicals, a membrane for artificial organ such as artificial kidney, etc., by the hydrophilic treatment of polyvinylidene fluoride. CONSTITUTION:(A) A polyvinylidene fluoride is dissolved in a solvent and formed into a porous membrane having a thickness of preferably 50-300mum e.g. by wet process. An aqueous solvent is impregnated into the pores and the membrane is immersed in a strongly alkaline solution (e.g. sodium methoxide) containing an oxidizing agent (e.g. potassium permanganate). The treated membrane is immersed in (B) an aqueous solution of a compound having hydrophilic group (e.g. hydroxyethylcellulose) having a concentration of preferably 0.05-2.0W/V%, washed with water and dried to obtain the objective porous membrane.
