Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain high radiations of heat ray, by using an air-permeable carrier which is a sintered matter composed of particulate aggregates and binders and being covered all its surfaces with solid surfaces, or using said carrier with its surfaces being treated with alumina sol etc. CONSTITUTION:A carrier, all surfaces of which are solid and have no opening, having a water content 30-70vol.% and a specific surface 0.5-30m<2>/g, comprising a sintered matter composed of particulate aggregates with a mean particle diameter 5mm or less, e.g. alumina or silica, or a mixture of them, or heat resisting inorganic material, and binders, or a carrier which is treated wit alumina sol or silica sol in the case of a specific surface of 10m<2>/g or less is used. As a result of the combustion test, using kerosine, on a catalyst manufactured by way of a trial by carrying platinum on said catalyst carrier, radiations of heat ray higher than those of a honeycomb catalyst widely used as a combustion catalyst can be obtained.
