Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the catalyst having good temperature distribution, high strength, and great heat load by a procedure in which a molded ceramic fiber is suppored with fine silica particles, dried, and baked, and then its one side is suppored with platinum group metal.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. molded ceramic fiber is supported with 10W100pts.wt. fine silica particles, dried at 110°C or less, and then baked 250W600°C. Then, one side of the baked ceramic fiber is supported with the platinum group metal in an amount of 0.5W5g/m2 to form the catalyst 1. Thus, the strength of the catalyst 1 can be raised because of the strong combination of silica with the ceramic fiber as the catalyst support. Also, because the passing resistance of gas is made great and the effect of the specific gravity of combustion gas is small, the dispersibility of gas passing through the catalyst 1 and the distribution of temperature are improved and the amount of heat load is made great.
