Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve a ceramic porous membrane so as to increase a permeability to organic solvents by treating a specifically prepared alumina ceramic membrane with an alkoxyalkylsilane. CONSTITUTION:An alumina sol is prepared by hydrolyzing an aluminum alcoholate such as aluminum isopropoxide or an aluminum chelate in water and then peptizing by adding concentrated nitric acid etc. A porous sintered alumina body of a cylindrical shape etc., is dipped in this alumina sol, then dipped in an aqueous solution of sodium silicate and treated with a high temperature steam. After repeating these operations several times, a ceramic porous membrane is obtained by washing out the alkali with a hot water. An improved ceramic membrane for separating condensed components is obtained by dipping the aforementioned ceramic porous membrane in a solution of an alkoxyalkylsilane such as benzene solution of methoxytrimethylsilane etc., and drying it afterward.
