Abstract
PURPOSE: In the production of acrylamide by hydration of acrylonitrile in the presence of a copper catalyst, the aqueous acrylamide resulting from the hydration is treated with a permeation membrane to remove steadily impurities hard separable and purified.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of a copper catalyst, acrylonitrile is hydrated to form aqueous acrylamide. The aqueous acrylamide is, when necessary, previously the copper is removed, treated with a permeation membrane, or is subjected to the treatment for removing copper, simultaneously or thereafter anionically exchanged, then treated with a permeation membrane. The membrane for permeation treatment is preferably made of cellulose acetate or aromatic polyamide.
