Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain stable focus control by using a detection light from a combination lens comprising a spherical lens having a positive refraction and two astigmatism lenses having a negative refraction so as to control the focus of a converged light onto a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A radiated laser beam L is reflected in the recording film of an optical disk 1 and the divergent reflected laser beam is converged into a collimated luminous flux by an objective lens 16 at focusing. The light is reflected in the half prism 14 and led to a spherical lens 17 having a positive refraction in the combination lens 10, passes through the lens 17 and is made incident in the two astigmatism lenses 18, 20 having a negative refraction being components of the lens 10 arranged in the optical path of the beam L. The side end face of the lenses 18, 20 is arranged so as to be in contact with each other on the optical axis of the lens 17. The light beam from the lenses 18, 20 is subject to detection of two kinds of signals by the photodetector 19 and the focus of the converged light onto the disk 1 is controlled by using the two kinds of the signals. Thus, stable focus control is attained.
