Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable information recording with low energy and in a wide energy width, by using a reversible recording material. CONSTITUTION:A reversible recording material has a recording layer 2 which comprises a thermoplastic resin matrix 3 and an organic low molecular weight substance 4 dispersed in the matrix 3 as main constituents and the transmission density of which is reversibly varied by heat or stress. The entire area of the recording layer 2 is heated by a heated roller to a transparentizing temperature, followed by cooling to uniformly transparentize the entire area of the recording layer 2. Next, thermal energy is applied to the recording layer 2 by a thermal head or the like to partly opacify the recording layer 2, thereby recording information. Then, the recording layer 2 is surface-treated with a solvent which does not dissolve but slightly swells the resin matrix 3 and which does not dissolve the organic substance 4, whereby the information recorded in the layer 2 is optically stored. As a result, the stored information does not disappear even under high-temperature conditions.
