Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a precise recognition result from a character string having the hierarchy constitution of solid writing by constituting a titled reader in such a way that it segments a word, compares a remained character candidate group and lower side word information and obtains the recognition result of the word of a lower side. CONSTITUTION:A recognition means 4 which reads the image of the character string having the prescribe hierarchy constitution of a solid writing on a business form and outputs the character candidate group, a knowledge dictionary 5 in which word information being the object of comparison with the character candidate group is stored at every hierarchy and which has word information adding pointers that designates the position of word information of the lower side, which belong to themselves, and a comparison processing means 6 which obtains the recognition result of the word from the character candidate group by comparing with the knowledge dictionary 5 are provided. The word is segmented from the character candidate group, and the remained character candidate group is compared with word information of the lower side at a position which the pointer added to word information corresponding to the word, whereby the recognition result of the word of the lower side can be obtained with respect to the word. Thus, the precise recognition result can be obtained from the character string having the hierarchy constitution of sold writing on the business form.
