Abstract

PURPOSE:To enlarge the band of a chrominance signal and to improve picture quality, by permitting a Q signal having frequency component higher than an NTSC specification to modulate other auxiliary carrier (frequency fQ) and to overlap it in a present band. CONSTITUTION:The Q signal having 1.5MHz of a band width modulates the auxiliary carrier fQ. Consequently, the lower wave band of the modulated component in 0.5-1.5MHz among the Q signals is distributed in 4.2-3.2 MHz. This is set to QH' meaning 'high band part of modulated Q signal' and it is overlapped in the present band of 4.2MHz. It is desirable that the QH signal is arranged in the frequency having small power component among luminance signals for making the QH' to be separated on a reception side. Thus, the band of the Q signal is enlarged only by dividing a part of the luminance signals (oblique component), and picture quality can be improved.
