Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are H, 1-22C alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl; pH is phenyl). USE:A synthetic intermediate for pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, other physiologically active substances, ferroelectric liquid crystal material, etc. Since the compound has especially high optical purity, it is excellent as a production raw material for high-purity optically active substance. PREPARATION:An optically active epichlorohydrin of formula II is made to react with a hydrogen nucleophilic compound or a carbon nucleophilic compound and the obtained compound of formula III is made to react with thiophenol to obtain a sulfide derivative of formula IV. The reaction is carried out in a solvent such as THF at -78--30 deg.C. The produced derivative is oxidized with an oxidation agent (e.g. peracid) to obtain the objective compound of formula I (R<2> is H).
