Abstract
PURPOSE:To make the backlash a proper value, when finish lapping is completed, by placing a pair of gears relatively approaching by a predetermined approaching distance so as to decrease the backlash halfway the finish lapping. CONSTITUTION:Advancing a pinion head 14 by a meshing device 32 meshing a pinion 10 with a gear 12 with zero backlash, a swing table 28 is held to a reference position, and the pinion is adapted to the gear in the central part of a tooth surface. Next giving backlash set in the meshing device, the pinion 10 is rotated retracting, and finish lapping is applied. Swiveling the swing table 28 by a swivel device 36, a tooth adapted position moves in the direction of a face width, and performing the finish lapping over the total unit of the tooth surface, the finish lapping is repeated in a preset number of cycles. Next reversing a motor 26, the lapping is applied to an advance surface, being repeated in a preset number of cycles. A slide base 44, after it is released from being clamped, is advanced only in a preset approaching distance and clamped, and the finish lapping is applied in a preset number of cycles, obtaining backlash almost equal to the desired backlash.
