Abstract

CONSTITUTION:The position of the mandrel is detected by a position transducer 16 provided on a mandrel ram 10, to enable the mandrel speed to be detected by a speed transducer 17. Then, the position of the mandrel 4 is set on a slightly projecting position from the front surface of the die 2 at the beginning of the pipe manufacturing. In this state, the stem 3 and the mandrel 4 are advanced in a same speed, when the stem 3 is arrived at the starting position of the extrusion, the speed of the mandrel is increased and the speed of the above- mentioned speed transducer 17 is controlled so that the stem 3 and the mandrel 4 are arrived at the advance limitting position at the same time. By this method, the whole length of the mandrel is brought into contact with the die to eliminate the wear concentration at the rear end part and the service life is extended.
