PURPOSE:To increase the feeding amount of lubricant and to drastically improve the workability of wire drawing and service life time of a die by arranging a roller die having a projection part on the way to an expansion line and by giving a continuous recess part on a steel wire rod. CONSTITUTION:After removing a second scale of the hot rolled steel wire rod, the wire drawing is performed after subjecting a surface preparation. At this time, the roller die is disposed on the way to the wire drawing line, the projection part having 0.02-0.2mm in height on the periphery surface of the die is provided and the recess part is given continuously on the steel wire rod by this die. At that time, when the depth of the hollow part is <=0.02mm, its effect is rather small, and when the hollow part is too deep, it remains as a surface defect, so its upper limit is regulated to 0.2mm. As a result, because the feeding amount of the lubricant is increased, the lubricity is improved, the expansion workability is significantly improved and the service life of the die is extended by 10%.
