Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the processing speed of image processing and to reduce the capacity of processing data by identifying the attribute of an image based on the appearance frequency of each level of histogram of an input image to be an object to decide an input image. CONSTITUTION:In case of deciding a multicolor image and a full color image, the appearance frequency of each level included in an input image to be an object is calculated by a histogram counter to form a histogram for the input image. Then the maximum value and minimum value of the histogram of the input image are found out. Namely, a peak and a trough appearing in the histogram (c) of the multicolor image clearly appear as compared to the histograms (a), (b) of the full color images, many picture elements are concentrated into a certain width including the peak of and picture elements included in several peaks occupy a large part of the whole picture elements. The histogram of the full color image appears in all the range of density levels. Since the multicolor image or the full color image can be decided, the processing speed of image processing can be improved and the capacity of processing data can be reduced.
