Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress generation of an induced radioactivity from a concrete structure, by forming a neutron shielding layer of a silicone rubber material or a polyethylene one on a radiation source side surface of the concrete structure of a nuclear facility. CONSTITUTION:A gamma ray counting from a silicone rubber neutron shielding material or a polyethylene one is approximately 1/100 of that from an ordinary concrete: in other words, a small amount of an induced radioactivity is generated from the above two materials and also limited kinds of long life nuclides exist in it. Therefore, by covering a radiation source side surface of a concrete structure with the silicone rubber neutron shield material or the polyethylene one, a neutron radiation to the concrete structure can be mitigated and thereafter an induced radioactivity from the concrete structure including that from long life nuclides can be suppressed.
