Abstract
PURPOSE:To make a relative locus and a head locus on a tape coincide even when the magnetic tape is made to travel at high speed, by controlling a head position control mechanism in accordance with the time of a vertical synchronizing signal obtained from a head switching signal and a reproduced signal. CONSTITUTION:The titled device is provided with a pair of heads 5 facing rotary drums 2 and 3 and equipped with a head position control mechanism 4a to make the position of the pair of heads 5 variable on the oblique track of the magnetic tape. Based on a signal to show the rotary phase of the rotary drums 2 and 3, a signal to successively switch a signal reproduced by the pair of heads 5 is generated and in accordance with this signal and the time of the vertical synchronizing signal obtained from the reproduced signal, the head position control mechanism 4a is controlled and the position of the head 5 is controlled. Thus, when the tape is made to travel at the high speed faster than a five-fold speed, the relative locus and the head locus on the tape can be made coincident and moreover, the lack of a reproducing signal and the lack of a horizontal synchronizing signal can be prevented.
