CONSTITUTION:The optical fibers consisting of core parts 1a made of transparent materials with a high refractive index and clad parts 2a made of materials with a low refractive index which are formed at the outer peripheries of only the core parts 1a are arranged so that the clad parts 2a of bare optical fibers which are exposed by removing their clads partially are in contact with or close to each other. Then the solution obtained by dispersing the glass particulates 4 with a lower melting point then the clad parts 2a in liquid 3 is applied over the surfaces of the clad parts before the clad parts 2a are heated and welded thermally, and then the clad parts are heated and melted. Consequently, the clad parts 2a of the optical fibers are easily welded.
