Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce insertion loss and to facilitate manufacture by connecting the core of one single-core fiber to one core of a multicore optical fiber correspondingly. CONSTITUTION:A single-core fiber part 41, a tapered part 42, a fiber part 43 formed in one body by being melted, a groove 44 are provided. To manufacture such an optical fiber branching circuit, several single-core fibers (three fibers in the figure) are bundled and, tapered by being applied axial tensile force, melted by being heated by discharge or in a furnace, performing a uniting treatment by melt. The melt-united fiber part has the same section with a multicore optical fiber, whose axis is aligned to te axis of the united fiber part 43 by utilizing the groove 44 before their connection by heat sealing.
