Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable uniform temperature distribution within a cell via the unification of temperature therein by providing manifold divisions in manifolds and supplying and discharging air and fuel gases via the flow thereof in alternate directions in each manifold. CONSTITUTION:Manifolds 5 and 6 for supplying and exhausting reaction gases are provided with a plurality of manifold divisions 7, thereby forming a plurality of gas passages. Planes for running fuel and air gases are different from each other and the passages thereof are orthogonal with each other. The same reaction gases flow respectively within a separator 4 on the same plane, but the directions of reaction gases in respective passages are different. The gas flow directions are so made that a flow in an even number row is opposite to a flow in an odd number row. For example, a normal direction applies to the first row, a reverse direction applies to the second row and a normal direction to the third row. According to the aforesaid system, not only the diffusion of reaction gases flowing in the separator 4 is minimized, but also the high temperature part of the reaction gases due to chemical reaction is dispersed, thereby ensuring uniform temperature distribution in the cell.
