Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the deoxidizing capacity of a deoxidant uniform and stable by simultaneously pulverizing and mixing metal powder having <=1% water content and a metal halide to tightly adhere fine powder of the metal halide to the surface of the metal powder and to produce the deoxidant. CONSTITUTION:Metal powder having <=1% water content and a metal halide are introduced into a pulverizer such as a ball mill or a rod mill, where they are simultaneously pulverized and mixed to tightly adhere the pulverized metal halide to the surface of the metal powder and to produce a deoxidant. The amt. of the metal halide used is 0.01-10pts.wt., preferably 0.5-5pts.wt. (expressed in terms of anhydride) per 100pts.wt. metal powder. The metal powder may be powder of any metal which oxidizes in the air but iron powder is preferably used. The metal halide may be an alkali metal halide such as NaCl, KCl, NaBr or KBr.
